Weird Right? Instead, they lick them clean with their tongues, which is just adorable to watch. Bio: The California kingsnake is a nonvenomous colubrid snake, native to the sunny western United States and northern Mexico. These snakes are like a living piece of art. The word “Lampropeltis” translates to bright/ brilliant scales which is the perfect description, with the glossy black and white bands these snakes. Kingsnakes also are one of the best snakes to have around your home, as they eat pretty much any rodent they can and they will even eat rattlesnakes!

Bio: The California mountain kingsnake is a nonvenomous colubrid snake found in North America. Its coloration and patterns imitate those of the coral snake, despite coral snakes not residing in California or within the range of this species. Its banded appearance consists of red, black, and white crossbands, with every red band flanked by two black bands, forming triads that are divided by white or cream/yellow crossbands. Since individual snakes can display variability in their colors and patterns, relying on the traditional saying “Red touches yellow will kill a fellow, red touches black its a friend of Jack” is not recommended.
