About Me

Sierra Scales Exotics is woman owned and offers a variety of reptile and amphibian education programs, services, and resources. From birthday parties to relocating rattlesnakes and other uninvited reptile visitors, Sierra Scales Exotics is your reptile go-to in Tuolumne County.

I have been keeping reptiles for 23 years, aside from the wild caught fence lizards I had as pets, my first “real” pet reptile was a sweet leopard gecko who just recently passed at 21 years old. I got into the ball python breeding hobby in 2020 when I realized how much I absolutely loved these animals, however, after I finished my first successful breeding season I decided it was not for me. While hatching my own clutch of snakes and experiencing the thrills of breeding reptiles was rewarding, the journey taught me how little the rest of the world knows about reptiles.

Every time someone finds out I keep snakes or snakes get brought up in conversation, I eventually hear some kind of story about how someone killed a snake. That is the reason I stopped bringing snakes into the world. I would rather spend my time helping to create a more snake and reptile friendly world.

I now focus on providing captivating reptile and amphibian birthday party experiences, education programs for schools and private groups, reptile relocation and abatement consultation services, pet reptile and amphibian care guide resources, reptile care consultations, custom enclosure backgrounds, supplies, reptile related merch, and I breed and sell designer Isopods.

I strive to be one of the most ethical animal presenters. I give all my ambassador animals the best possible habitats, most are in bioactive enclosures, and all are provided with enrichment such as plastic plants, paper towel tubes, rocks, and they each have a hides. I perform regular health checks on my animals, and practice excellent biosecurity to ensure the health of my animals and the people who may interact with them. My programs only consist of animals I know well and trust, and they get vetted for temperament and health. I condition my animals to be used to different sounds, and environments ensuring that they are comfortable in new settings. Additionally I do not offer more than two programs or parties a day to ensure the animals do not get too stressed out or uncomfortable.

Isopods are a silly side project I accidently fell into. I currently breed two Cubaris species (Rubber Duckies and Papya), I also breed Porcellio dialatatus (Giant Canyon), Porcellio scabers (Powder Blue and Powder Orange), and Armadillidium vulgare. I make my own isopod food with the highest quality ingredients for the best health and brightest colored pods, ready to be the clean up crew or main attraction in a terrarium near you!

I pride myself in keeping my animals in the most humane conditions possible, with plenty of enrichment, quality food, and love. The health and happiness of my animals comes first, always.
